Mary Ann (she/her)

Education/Experience

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Regis University. Colorado State University is where I received a Bachelor’s degree in Consumer and Family Studies.

I have worked in affordable counseling agencies with individual adult clients dealing with anxiety and depression, anger, shame, grief, trauma, and life transitions.

My Journey to Becoming a Therapist

My own personal experience with therapy as a client is the reason why I became a therapist. I gained insight into my thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that I didn’t make sense to me. At times, therapy was very painful, however, it was worth it.   Learning to accept and work with my emotions and thoughts, helped me to trust and honor my true self. The support and guidance I received from my therapists made a big difference in my life.

Self-compassion has also been an important part of my therapy journey and my life in general.  Self-compassion has helped me to be less judgmental about my emotions and thoughts. I am not alone in difficult feelings or situations when being self-compassionate.  Lastly, self-compassion has taught me that self-kindness is much more helpful than “beating myself up”.  Self-compassion can be challenging at times but well worth the practice.

Working with adult clients who are open to explore difficult emotions and thoughts is an honor. I understand the importance of creating a trusting relationship with clients so that they feel safe to share and go to places which can be very painful. I offer guidance, knowledge, and support as we work together as a team. If having a therapist who is empathetic, knowledgeable, compassionate, and trustworthy sounds like a good fit for you, let’s work together!

My Roots

I am originally from Louisville, Kentucky, and have been in Colorado for many years. I enjoy spending time with family, friends, being outdoors and traveling. We have one dog, Dolly. One of my favorite things to do is riding my bike. Cycling is a form of therapy for me which helps me work through my feelings and thoughts. Being out in nature and moving my body is so helpful for my mental and physical health. Television shows with heart such as Abbott Elementary, Reservation Dogs, and Only Murders in the Building help me when I get so serious that I forget to laugh and enjoy the moment.
